Mystic

MYSTIC is where Beyond Handpan really began.

While making this piece, I realized I wasn't simply playing through a collection of electronic instruments... I was creating music with them. I would play, stop and listen to what the system had become, then respond. That response would be transformed again, giving me something new to react to. Somewhere inside that loop, the electronics stopped feeling like effects and started feeling like collaborators.

Then I combined that pleasantly unfamiliar musical disorientation with evolving fractal imagery and motion... and something unexpected happened. The sound and image didn't simply accompany one another. Together they created an experience that neither seemed capable of producing alone.

That was the moment I knew I needed to go deeper... and, in many ways, where Beyond Handpan began.
